The Olivia Tremor Control - California Demise 7"

You can't talk about Psychedelic Pop without bringing up The Olivia Tremor Control. This band is what The Beatles would've sounded like if they continued on the musical path they started with Revolver. California Demise is a great starting point to listen to The Olivia Tremor control because it's the shortest and most controlled of their recordings, however that doesn't take away from the fact that this is a mind blowing 7". Featuring OTC in it's initial line up with, now indie rock legend, Jeff Mangum on the drums (he started out as a drummer before picking up the guitar). You can see that, even in this immature state, they were starting to experiment with drone/sound collage recordings in "California Demise pt. 1" and "California Demise pt. 2". "Fireplace" is a highlight for those Jeff Mangum fans out there as it features Jeff on vocals (gasp! it's like a new NMH song!).

Black Swan Network - Late Night Music

The Olivia Tremor Control's side project, The Black Swan Network, are even more experimental than the original band, if you can believe it. Hidden within the linear notes of OTC's first album, Dusk At Cubist Castle, is a message requesting fans to send in recordings of themselves recounting their dreams. Those recordings were then spliced up and edited to create this collection of seven heavily drone influenced post-rock songs. A great record to listen to when you're in a contemplative mood. Each song (titled 1-7) has a distinct mood, it's as if you can feel the dream that each person had even though there are no words in any song (the recordings people sent in were altered to such an extent that the words are indecipherable between instruments).

The Barreracudas - New York Honeys 7"

Great release from The Barreracudas, a garage rock band from Georgia. Can't really go wrong with this 7", which, from what I can tell, is their first release. First track starts off with a simple riff and picks up rather quickly with an awesome verse and a chorus you can't help but sing along to. Watch out for these old timers, they're definitely not going to disappoint with future releases.
